An old YouTube video is showing viral promise!

Out of the blue I started receiving a lot of emails from YouTube advising me that someone commented on my video. This video, see below, I posted on YouTube in February 2018. At time of writing it has received nearly 35,000 views and over 95 comments so far.

I recorded a scammer calling me from India, pretending to be from BT Openreach and advising me that my equipment is faulty. In order to keep him on the phone as long as possible in order to make sure that his phone bill or the company phone bill is as high as possible, I pretend to not know much about IT and as such manage to take him down a blind alley. It usually works and often they don’t call back.

For some reason this video has been racking up a lot of views and is by far the best performing video on my channel. Unfortunately I won’t be achieving any monetary value from it as I need to have 1000 subscribers and only have around 400+, so if you do read this post and are willing to help me out, please subscribe to my channel. In addition to the number of subscribers I need around 600, I also need to achieve 4000 public watch hours and although they have been going up, I’m still around 1100 hours short.

All I know it takes a really, really long time to clock up subscribers and get those public views, wow, it’s hard work, bloody YouTube. Believe it or not I did actually earn some money on YouTube, years ago, before they changed the rules.

What I have discovered through this event is that YouTube’s analytics is incredibly detailed and you can learn a huge amount of information based on the activity on your videos, it is actually quite impressive. Have a look at the image below, which is a metric you can see on a video in their advanced mode. The most views of this video have actually taken place on a TV screen. I would never have guessed that and I suppose due to the pandemic more people are switching to YouTube on their TV when there’s not much to watch on regular TV channels.
